Match Report RoCC boys were right on time at 9.45 on Sunday on an overcast day and threat of rain looming. Match, unfortunately, started only an hour later as umpires from GCT got delayed. The 1 hour lost and other interruptions combined with a no-hurry overrate probably cost DCC the match.
Under dark skies, RoCC started off with a flier as Harry and Hiren had a hot start. Niranjan and Mahesh could not make any serious dents on the pair who were looking in ominous touch. Both the batsmen were methodically aggressive. It took a 40 minute rain interruption and a change of bowler to get DCC the first break when RoCC were cruising at 44/0 in 6 overs when the skies opened up to a constant drizzle.
After the mini-break, Rahul produced a mesmerising spell to dismiss the first 5 RoCC batsman straight. His first over saw Harry giving a leading edge to keeper. Afterwards, the ball was just continuing beating the bat helped by a disciplined bowling from Rahul. Then, Hiren picked a wrong one to go after and Ivan finished the catch at mid-off. Following that, Saurin thick edged a beauty to gully where Niranjan made no mistake. Amar fed Pratik with a pop-up at point. Dakshin got trapped plumb to give Rahul his well deserved 5 wicket haul. Rahul was taking the burden of putting the pressure on RoCC but could not get support from the other end and in 12 overs, ROCC had raced to 83 with everybody contributing with the willow although the top half were wiped clean by 1 man. All along, Ashutosh was setting up the anchor for the visitors with good technical batting. All of a sudden, DCC saw an an army of ROCC supporters pour in from nowhere. It looked like the game was played in Eden Gardens with DCC as the visitors in their own home ground. Dipen, Dhimant and Pinkesh chipped in useful runs around Ashutosh's solid batting eked on by the crowd. Ivan and Pratik were the other highlights of DCC bowlers. They bowled very miserly spells to check down ROCC's run flow even in the slog. In the end, ROCC made 187 - a score that would be challenging enough for any team.
However, after lunch, it was all DCC. Ivan hammered his way against the RoCC bowlers. Rahul wanted to show he can bat too and opened with Ivan. Saurin, Dhimant and Harry tried their best but Ivan was in prime touch and nothing could stop him that day. Rahul was also in top gear cutting and driving - earning his runs in quick time. Together, they slammed 92/0 in 10 overs. It looked like there was no one to stop Ivan but then rain decided to help out RoCC and the match was called off stranding the West Indian at 61 and Rahul at 21.
The spirit at the pavillion was playoff intensive with the 2 factions going after each other. Yet it was total fun and both cheer-leading groups were enjoying the action and chatting. ROCC guys were well prepared for the road trip which shows their commitment to the league.
DCC nominates Rahul for player of the week for his dream figures of 6-2-14-5 and 21 NO. He certainly ran away with Man of the Mathch.
Umpire Report Good consistent umpiring from the GCT guys. |
