Match Report
On a perfect 70 F day, DCC started the match on the right note by winning the toss and electing to chase on a slighlty moist outfield. It was a bold move since TCC is historically known to relish batting first but it was a carefully analyzed decision which eventually would pay off.

Niranjan started the game with a spectacular maiden over pinning down new TCC opener Pranab. Mahesh relented the same pressure at the other end although Arvind was looking in good nick. A couple of dropped catches looked as if it was going to be Arvind's day out but Niranjan gobbled a catch of his own bowling to send the TCC captain back. TCC were 26/1 in 7 overs. Deepesh then put the misery out of the other opener when Rahul swallowed a scoop up. When Sundar gave a practice catch off Deepesh, TCC were on the backfoot at 35/3 in 10. Shibu and Vijay then consolidated runs inspite of a facing a disciplined attack from Deepesh, Rahul and Pratik. Hari was able to get some beauties but could not get a good handle on the ball and Shibu/Vijay pounced on those freebies like a tiger. When Saurabh took a tap-on head high running catch at deep point, Pratik's spin had cornered TCC to 82/4 in 20 overs. Ivan showed what he could do with the ball as well. While Rajesh could not beat the safe hands of Rao, Amar skied a mile high catch to a standing wicket-keeper. Deepesh bagged 3 wickets and DCC were all charged up inspite of half a dozen cathes dropped.

Mukhi came and blasted some cool looking cricket shots but Rahul's spectacular running catch off Pratik ensured that no more damage was done. Neeraj and Shibu went air-borne but bowlers still didnt lose their calm. Still, last 10 overs costed 90 runs, thanks to some well timed slog by TCC. TCC was more than happy at reaching a good total that was looking nowhere close to it at one point - a score architected by Shibu who went on to make 64 NO.

DCC had good Pulav lunch, thanks to Mrs. Niranjan, and then worried about the score at hand. Saurabh and Ivan faced off Arvind and Amar. Saurabh decided he was better off cheering than scoring: His stumps were rattled by Arvind's cutter. The bowler then went on to trap Ivan LBW. Ivan looked solid till then with a powerful sixer but was trapped LBW off Arvind.

It put DCC on the backfoot in terms of wickets although they were already crusing with a healthy runrate. Sanjeewa and Mahesh quickly settled down and were merrily pushing the pedal with ease. The Ceylon lad unleashed some classical shots while methodically building his innings. The Haryana dude was also complementing in turn and was getting increasingly confident in his shot making. Mahesh pulled 2 lovely sixers and shifted to 6th gear. Sanjeewa's timing was like Quartz - impeccable. The pair milked runs and put on a 50 run partnership. Mukhi and Chandru did their best to desperately get the breakthrough for TCC to have any chance of making a comeback. It appeared as if they finally succeeded when Mahesh terminated his day by lollypopping a tame catch to Shibu for a well compiled 29. DCC only needed 100 more at the end of the 12th over. Pratik then wanted to stable the ship and did not want DCC to lose any more wickets. He began slow but steady but Pratik soon got back on track with 2 mighty heaves that disappeared in the woods. Sanjeewa all along had been playing the perfect anchor role while blazing shots at will. Soon this pair was flying high again like before. But with 50 runs to go and 9 overs left, Natu struck middle stump to dismiss the captain. Shankar went and gave some support to Sanjeewa who was in a different plane by now. When Shankar's half-hearted skier was brilliantly pulled down inches from the boundary line by a leaping Arvind off Natu, DCC's full-heart knew the game was already in the bag. Niranjan could not succeed in up-ing the RR and it had to be Rao who had to make the final few runs in style to take DCC to a well-deserved victory over a competitive team. Sanjeewa batted through 25 overs from the first over and provided the ballast. Sanjeewa also became mighty rich (by $10) during the DCC MVP award ceremony.

Hats off again to our bowlers! Very clean umpiring by Anzacs ensured that the 2 teams had a good and a fair day out.
