The ANZAC's can brag all they want but the ultimate truth is that once again the lions are on the top. This match against QOCC was the ultimate example showing why lions are number one. The match was one of the most exciting matches played this year and it reminds me of the India vs. South Africa match that was played in the ICC knockout tournament in Sri Lanka. Just like India, Charlotte lions snatched victory from the jaws of QOCC.

Finally the weather has been perfect in the Carolinas and this was yet another perfect Sunday for cricket. Lions did not have their usual eleven; instead they gave chances to some young guns in their squad. After losing the toss the lions were asked to bat (every team knows bowling second was like a monkey on our back). Like always Parimal and Shashi got of to a blazing start and the first forty runs came in no time. Unfortunately Parimal got out and things got a little slow with Kunal and Shashi in the middle. I do not want to take anything away from QOCC bowlers; they did an excellent job after the first wicket fell. The second to go was Shashi; he made a score of 26. After that Lions innings never looked threatening except some good scores by Kunal (22), Ashish (25) and Abhi (15). The tail enders got out without troubling the scores too much and the total posted by Lions was a modest 156.

During lunch Lions captain Shashi, made it very clear that past is past and Lions will not go down without a fight. So now it was up to the bowlers to show what they can do. Ashish and Abhi gave a good start but it was Abhi's excellent catch on the boundary that gave us the much needed first break; the catch was taken in Ashish's over. Just when things were looking a bit gloomy for Lions, it was again Abhi's smart fielding that got Saurabh run out and the second crucial wicket fell.

Some good tight bowling followed by PK and Rushit; the runs got harder to score and finally PK gave us another break through, this time Sarvana gave a simple catch to Nishit. Next Bharat V. took a smart catch of Rushit's bowling and the 4th wicket fell.

Things were just getting comfortable for QOCC, runs were coming a nice pace with Yashpal and Peruz batting, but smart field placing by Shashi and an excellent piece of fielding by Nishit got Peruz run out for the 8th time.

However, the biggest turning point of the game came when Shashi decided to continue with Parimal (in the previous over Pari was punished hard by Yashpal). Parimal got three wickets in his last over, and Lions knew then that they were very close to winning the game. The stumping by Shashi in that over was one of the best in this tournament. Ashish and Abhi got the last two wickets in the end and Lions won the match by 22 runs.

Again the Teamwork gave us another Win.
