Match Report:

It was a beautiful Sunday morning. CLCC members came out early morning, mowing grass since it was very thick outfield. Abhi did excellent job mowing the grass for nearly 2 hours! Also, thanks to PK to let us use his mower.

The two umpires from COCC were there on time while the Lions waited for VT since they were traveling from far.

Toss was won by CLCC and without hesitation Lions captain elected to field. VT sent out their opener Prabhakar and captain Srikanth. Ashish bowled very well but unfortunate not to get any wickets; while Abhi on the other end took 2 wickets out of which one of Prabhakar was a superb catch by sanjay, it was a prime wicket. It went on when Gopal bowled Ankur and Abhi got Srikanth.

Nikhil came out with fire and hit some boundaries and a huge six. An excellent fielding by Ashish with a direct throw to the wickets got Nikhil out. Right before break time, a change by Lions captain brought Chandu to bowl and guess what, he delivered another wicket. VT were 69/5 in 15 overs. Chandu showed his talent and well supported by Mayur. Parimal wrapped VT innings at low score of 103. Chandu completed his spell 6-1-4-15, a superb bowling display.

CLCC sent out there opener Sanjay and Gopal to achieve a total of 104. It started well. VT bowlers were in pressure, they bowled some wides and no-balls in first two overs and CLCC were quickly 18/0. VT got a break in the form of Sanjay's wicket. An out which created some arguments when umpire thought it was a bump catch. VT players got really agitated. After talking with leg umpire the decision was changed and Sanjay was given out.

Spectators, mainly from the home side were really vociferous, however, VT were happy to get there first wicket.

Kunal joined Gopal but didn't last long and gave his wicket away. Kunal attempted to pull an off-side ball only to spoon it in the air. Gopal did all the scoring. At a stage CLCC were 10 overs 49/3 when the captain Shashi joined Gopal. They both played wisely and took some easy singles and kept rotating the strike. Runs were coming freely and VT were in trouble. Both batsman did some nice bating took the score close to victory and then Gopal lost his wicket at 37 to Nikhil, it was a 3rd C&B of the innings. Gopal showed a tremendous piece of sportsmanship by walking out even though the umpire did not signal out. Umpire was totally blocked while the catch was taken.

Ashish Joined Shashi to wrap up the innings, Lions needed 13 runs to win. A square cut six over the point by Shashi and a glorious boundary by Ashish finished the game. Shashi scored quick 33 not out with 2 sixes and two fours. Virginia Tech Hokies were involved in a bit of sledging (albeit acceptable) however, the Lions let their batting and bowling do all the talking. Ashish pumped his fist in the air after smashing a cracking square cut through point region.

CLCC won by 6 wickets and move on to the semi-finals. Great teamwork all around the field gave an easy win to CLCC. Man of the match was Chandu who took 4 wickets for 15 runs in just 6 overs.

Lions shook hands with their opponents as both teams left field.

Unless TCC can pull off an upset on the first quarter final against the top seed ANZACs, the Lions will be looking forward to a rematch with ANZACs on first semifinal. It will be a mouthwatering match indeed.
