Report:
On a cool and clear morning, Sastry deputizing for Dhiren, won
the toss and elected to bat. Bala set the tempo with clean hit over long on for
6 of Vijay. After a slight delay Vijay replied with an unplayable swinging
yorker and GRCC lost an early wicket. Sravan started confidently with a couple
of sweetly timed boundaries, but lost the plot with an ill-advised pull that
landed in the hands of square-leg. Amarnath opened his account with a trademark
six over extracover and looked to get a big score. After confidently playing out
the opening bowlers Ramesh tamely misjudged a looping full toss and was bowled
by Ronnie. Amarnath quickly fell lbw to Pranav and GRCC were left in a hole at
62/4 of 10 overs. Vicky A and Vicky C then put up a splendid partnership of 48
runs to lift GRCC. Vicky A looked in great form and his handling of the
off-break bowler Shankar was right out of the coaching manual. Then against the
run of play Vicky A was bowled by Pranav trying to cut a low ball on the stumps.
Sastry and Vicky C carried the score steadily to 141. Then Vijay got both Sastry
and Hari off succesive balls. GRCC finally ended up with 162/8 of 30 overs.
CCC began their innings in a unique way. They lost Ahmed, run out by a long way
inspite of the keeper missing the stumps by a long way, but ended up with 15
runs over. Raj ended up conceding 11 wides due the enormous amount of swing he
got. Sastry wisely changed his end and Raj to his credit responded with a wicket
maiden from the other end. CCC lost wickets at regular intervals and never
looked like reaching the target. Hari and Ramesh choked off the runs in the
middle overs and Rajeev Khanna finished the innings off. Although GRCC dropped 5
catches and gave up 23 runs in the 22nd over the end result was never in doubt.
We would like to thank the umpires from NCSU for a commendable job.
