Report:

An overcast sky threatened the game right from the start, but CoCC's great spirit to play under any condition (considering drizzles and light rain quite a few times during the game) and NCSU's great spirit to win under any condition turned it into a day good enough for cricket. NCSU continued their trend of losing the toss and were asked to bat on a wet outfield. There were some delays in starting the game due to some unavoidable circumstances regarding preparation of the ground from the host side, but 'kudos' to CoCC for their patience, given the fact that they had a 5-hour drive and had arrived well before start time.

The NCSU openers started cautiously with the ball rising only up to the batsman's knee at best. With the score at 19, Krishnakanth looking to drive the ball, got it on his ankle and deflected the ball onto the stumps, giving CoCC their first breakthrough. Sushil soon followed Krishnakanth, surprised by the low bounce. With the score at 27 in the 9th over, this looked to be low scoring game. In came Vinay, fresh from his exploits against SPCC, to join Amit. Once again we had our 2 “in-form” batsmen at the crease, and once again they delivered with a partnership of 82 runs. Vinay scored a well-paced 42, supporting Amit at the other end. Right before the break, the score jumped from 48 in 13 overs to 70 in 15 overs, thanks to some huge hits from the batsmen.

The running between wickets from the batsmen was also worth noting considering the wet outfield, and as a result, the scarcity of runs along the ground. They were also helped by the difficult fielding conditions and a few missed opportunities by the visitors. After Vinay's dismissal in the 22nd over, a batting collapse ensued, but Amit held the other end, scoring at will while wickets kept falling in succession. He made 92 off just 81 balls with 4 sixes and 3 fours and went on till the 30th over. NCSU finished with a total of 170, which was a reasonable one considering the conditions. CoCC had a bad start when their opener (Bhalu) was dismissed for a naught in the very first over by Abhishek.

However, the other opener (Abhed) was joined by Jitendra, and they continued to frustrate the NCSU bowlers till Krishnan (Krish) was brought-in for the 9th over of the innings. He immediately went to work, enticing the batsman to go over the top and provided the breakthrough that NCSU needed. Krish followed up with 3 more wickets, of which 2 were in the same over. CoCC were reduced to 62/6 at the break. After the break, CoCC provided some resistance, losing a quick wicket but trying to hold on, especially their No. 8 and No. 9 batsmen, Keyur (18) and Raju (25*), with a partnership of 28.

Nihar was brought in for his 2nd spell and he got the wicket of Keyur in the 20th over with the score at 95/8. CoCC were eventually bundled out for 122, helped by some extras gifted by the NCSU bowlers in the wet and humid conditions. A point worth noting is CoCCs will to play-on without any time-wasting tactics amidst light rain and drizzles at times. We appreciate CoCC for being such a spirited team and also thank Sudeep and Ketan from Anzacs for doing a great job umpiring the game. It was a good effort from NCSU, with Amit deserving the MoM for his 92, and Krish bagging 4-33 with some important wickets. All said and done, the road ahead for NCSU gets tough from here and they have to keep repeating similar performances to be in the top 4 at the end of the regular season! Go Pack!!
