Report:
Man of the match: Pratik Phadke
"Electric knocks by Pratik (103 off 74 balls) and Asutosh (74 of
75 Balls) help DCC win against OCC"
Synopsis:
A record MACC partnership of 174 Runs for the 3rd wicket by Vice-Captain Pratik
and Ashutosh helped DCC pose an imposing target of 239 for 3 in 30 overs. DCC
then clamped down OCC batsman who eventually made 199for 9 in 30 overs backed by
Prithivi (60) in a losing effort.
OCC travelled for 3 hours from Richmond to visit DCC. DCC won the toss and
elected to bat. The new opening pair for this game was Ravi and Rao. Ravi
whipped 3 boundaries in the first over off 'hit-me'
balls. It looked as if Ravi would plunder any bad balls bowled to him. OCC had
no choice but to get their line and length right and they did. Ravi mis-timed a
pull off the first ball off the 2nd over and Tanmay caught the ball at square
leg off Abhijit when DCC were at 18.
Ravi made 13 off just 6 balls. Pratik walked in and played the ball straight off
the bat to identify his timing. Rao at the other end played Norman Bates ... he
would alternate from playing clean to missing the line. Run rate for DCC,
however, continued to be healthy at 6 an over. Rao perished soon afterwards with
a thick edge on a cover drive to be caught at the boundary line by Y after
bobbling the ball once. DCC were now 26 for 2 in the 4th over. It looked like
OCC had the upper hand with timely breakthroughs. Little did they realize what
was to come. Asutosh now joined Pratik and took his customary few balls to read
the pitch and the bowler. Asutosh then started to drive the ball where
appropriate. A couple of powerful square drives and cuts to the boundary sent
the OCC fieldsman protecting the deep. Singles and Twos were now effortlessly
scored in the gaps. The pair batted very sensibly limiting risks but never
hesitating to put away 'thrash-me' balls.
Pratik, in particular, was simply brutal on anything short. A sixer over point
and another one over square leg were sandwiched between some textbook style
drives. With Pratik looking ominous, Asutosh mixed anchor with aggression. Both
players were now in a comfort zone. This ensured that DCC would not dry up the
going run rate.
By the 26th over, Pratik had reached his 100 (7 x4s, 4 x6s) off just 70 balls.
He did not add much later and missed a wild swing that was more a sacrifice to
let new legs take over the slog phase since DCC had tons of wickets and energy
reserves. Niranjan threw the bat around the finish line for a well compiled 20
runs off just 11 balls. Asutosh made a crafty 74(Not Out) of 75 balls consists
of 6 x4s and 1 x6. DCC finished with 239. The pavilion this time was more than
happy after 3 modest finishes.
Chasing 8 an over, OCC got off to a reasonably hot start with openers Ninad and
Puri throwing the bat to get to a decent run-rate. A couple of tough chances
went the batsman's way and the opening pair was doing well at 37 in 5 overs.
Pratik, with his first ball of the first bowling change, produced an in-cutter
that saw Puri’s bails clipped for OCC to lose their first wicket at 39.
Timely wickets and an accurate bowling saw DCC never let OCC take control of
their batting. Neeraj took 3 wickets with a teasing off spin that broke OCC's
middle order. Preserving wickets were now costing OCC dearly on the run rate. A
last effort by Prithivi and Anup lent some respectability to OCC in a valiant
effort that came a little bit too late. OCC made 199 for 9 in 30 overs to give a
respectable total. DCC were happy yet again to get their 6 points.
DCC has not lost a game in the last 4 outings.
