Report:
As usual, it was beautiful day out there on Lakhany Ground and
field was well prepared by Lakhany Family of Gastonia for MACC's quarter final
between CLCC and COCC.
Umpires, Rafi uncle and Sanjay from SCCA were present on time, COCC were little
off the time so the game started little late then expected. Here comes the toss
and as always away team calls, CLCC won and after lot of team discussion chose
to field first.
Game began, COCC were hoping to make a big score keeping in mind CLCC long
batting line up but the mega power bowling by CLCC's opening bowling pair
started to damage COCC's line up and equally well supported by rest of the
bowlers kept damaging COCC line up. In no time COCC crumbled up and gave away 7
wickets at a score of 89 in 20 over. But it was not over yet as Paul and Walton
for the 8th wicket and Nikhil at 9th wicket gave COCC 53 valuable runs to stay
in the game. Ashish CLCC's Vice Captain could not take it anymore and he came to
bowl so he can end the COCC innings and he did indeed wrap the COCC innings up
in his 4th and games 27th over at a COCC score of 142. Superb bowling by Ashish
and Mihir.
CLCC just wanted to win so they can move on to the next level "semi-final".
Kalpesh and Abhi opened CLCC innings and normally Abhi acts like mini Shewag,
but today he was thinking something different and played responsible innings. It
beats me but I guess he had to make it up for his opening partner Sidd who was
not playing due to injury.
Both opener played very sensible innings and helpless COCC could not do anything
to get them out, until Abed came and showed some different variety in bowling.
His 15 mph bowling speed was very difficult to play after playing 50-60mph
speed. It was very irritating and it was challenging time for both the openers.
Finally, Abhi went for a shot over the cover and got caught by Pranav. The shot
was very powerful which almost broke fielder's hand but fielder managed to hold
the ball after 3/4 attempts and got out of the field hurt. Abhi scored 35 and
very next over Parimal got out LBW. Gopal came to join Kalpesh who was not going
back to the Lions den till it's over.
Kalpesh was wrongly given out LBW at 44 when he clearly nicked the ball. This was one of the incidents to remember as batsman made his point that it clearly touched his bat; main umpire discussed with the leg umpire, acknowledged his mistake and reversed his decision. However, COCC was in no mood to show any sportsmanship and they would not accept it. Finally, umpire asked Kalpesh to leave and apologized to him. It was deplorable to see no amount of sportsmanship from Columbia! CLCC accepted the decision given by umpire and the game went on. Gopal and Shashi finished the innings without wasting anymore time. Both the batsman stayed not out, Gopal scored 34 and Shashi 11. CLCC won easily in 25th over and moved on to the semi-final with RCC.
Our Man of the Match was indeed Ashish for his brilliant bowling
4/18.
Special thanks to the umpires for keeping things under control and under the hot
Sun.
