Match Report On a damp and sunny day GRCC arrived in CLCC ground to get themselves acclimatized with the conditions. CLCC won the toss and elected to field first based on the conditions.
GRCC started with Paddy and Amar and CLCC countered with Krunal and Gautam. GRCC got off to an inauspicious start when they lost Paddy of the first ball (played on) to Krunal. Laxmi joined Amar but did not last long falling to Gautam trying to pull him. Amar immediately got out trying to score runs by cut Krunal (thanks to some good bowling by Krunal and Gautam). GRCC was in a hole at 9/3 in 7 overs. Vicky C and Vicky A came together and put a good patient 36 run partnership. Ashish and Ani continued from where the opening bowlers left off. Just when things were looking good Vicky C got bowled and Sumeet caught behind of Ashish (48/5 in 19 overs). With runs difficult to come and wickets tumbling Vicky A tried to improvise and got caught at point (58/6 in 22 overs). The remaining players put up some fight to take the score to 85 runs in 29.3 overs. CLCC did a good job of restricting GRCC to 85.
GRCC had their job cut out for them. They borrowed a leaf out of CLCC's playbook and kicked up their intensity to a different level to pull off a great victory.
CLCC started with Abhi and Gautam and GRCC countered with Ramesh and Hari. GRCC struck early in the 3rd ball of the first over to remove Gautam, thanks to good fielding by Raj at square leg and Laxmi at the stumps (5/1). Ramesh shattered the timber of CLCC's top scorer in the first ball of the second over (6/2). Hari came back well after the wayward first over to bamboozle Ani into give a return catch to him (8/3). Ramesh did to Krunal the same thing he did to Abhi in the 4th over (8/4). CLCC found themselves in trouble during the early stages of their innings. Shashi and Ashish steadied the innings till the 8th over. With wickets in mind Amar brought in Khanna and he immediately delivered. Shashi tried to clear Long off but found Vicky C who took a good running catch (25/5 in 9 overs). With the captain gone GRCC saw an opening and wanted to break the game wide open. Khanna did exactly that when he got rid of Ashish lbw in the 13th over when Ashish tried to sweep (33/5 in 13 overs). Raj took care of Mayur from the other end by sneaking one through his defence (37/7 in 14 overs). In the 15th over before the break CLCC lost two wickets. Paddy and Laxmi combined for Gautam's runout and then Khanna removed Gaurang caught at cover. With Victory at the door step GRCC went into the break. After the break, Kalpesh started to hit out since only one wicket was remaining. Amit wanted to give Kalpesh the strike for the 17th over and got into a mix up. Sumeet and Raj combined for the last run out to take GRCC to a well earned victory.
We would like to thank Rafi uncle and his family for their hospitality. We also would like to thank P.K. Patel for the accomodation arrangements. Last but not the least three cheers for our supporting crew Archana and Rashmi for sticking by us through out the game.
